EX NIGER DELTA MILLITANT COMMANDERS SET UP ELECTION MONITORING GROUPS.

PORT HARCOURT— Former militant commanders in the Niger Delta have set up election monitoring groups ahead of the forth coming general polls.

In a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, under the aegis of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, president of the forum of ex- militant leaders, Pastor Reuben Wilson, said the various groups would monitor the elections round the country, adding that they will ensure that the electorate were free to vote for candidates of their choice.

The ex-militant leaders, who reaffirmed their support for President Goodluck Jonathan, warned politicians planning to rig the elections to refrain from such act.

He said: “We have a governor boasting that his party will lead civil disobedience if President Jonathan defeats his party in the March 28 presidential election. They are planning to rig. They are planning to use cloned PVCs with the assistance of some Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officials.

“We have also heard some people saying that we, the Niger Delta freedom fighters, are no more supporting our brother, Jonathan, ahead of the March 28 election. Let them continue to dream. But we wish to inform them that we are aware of their rigging plots and that is why we have decided to form ourselves into monitoring groups to frustrate their agenda.”
