CHATHAM HOUSE-STOP CHASING SHADOWS PDP TO APC.

The Peoples Democratic Party has noted the theatrical appearance of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in that well produced orchestra earlier today at the Chatham House, London.
A script well written, a script well acted, all a truthful lie. The messenger belies the message.
GEN-BUHARI-CHATHAM1 The stage was targeted to secure a desperately needed endorsement of the international community but the world is hardly fooled by theatrics of desperation. APC is chasing shadows.
That stage may have lifted the badly deflated morale of the members of APC but the vanishing performance is incapable of redeeming the forlorn fortune in the bad sale the APC flag bearer is in the March 28, 2015 presidential election.
Bottom-line, we wish to urge General Buhari to quickly channel his message and energies home, meet Nigerians who are choking up with questions on his capacity to lead. He may realize ultimately too, that politics in this instance is local and shall be decided locally. The ultimate endorsement lies with the people of Nigeria.
We wish to commend President Goodluck Jonathan for boosting the moral of our gallant soldiers with a visit today to Baga in Bornu State and Mubi in Adamawa State. His able leadership has resulted in the huge successes recorded by our Armed Forces in the fight against insurgency.

DR GOODLUCK JONATHAN PAID A SURPRISE VISIT TO TROOPS IN ADAMAWA TODAY.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday paid surprise visit to troops in Adamawa, who have been battling the Boko Haram insurgents.

The President reportedly landed at the Yola International Airport at about 11:00am and boarded a helicopter and went off into the hinterland.

Those on the President’s entourage included the service chiefs, the State Governor, James Ngilari, and the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

It was gathered that the President and his entourage landed at the 115 battalion Army barracks in Mubi before they were driven to pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isah Ahmadu.

After private talks with the Emir, the President and the Service Chief visited the home village of the Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh and later flew back to Yola on their way to Abuja.
Adamawa is one of the states in the northeast affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Some of the local government areas in the state recaptured from Boko Haram are – Maiha, Mubi South, Mubi North, Hong Gombi and Michika while soldiers are battling to reclaim Madagali.

The President’s visit is therefore seen as a morale booster for the soldiers.

He had also recently paid similar visit to troops in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Thumbs up for G.E.J.

A MUST KNOW FOR ANY GSM SUBSCRIBER IN NIGERIA ABOUT F.G PLAN.

Nigeria’s active 120 million GSM subscribers need to know this: The Nigeria Police, the State Security Service [SSS] and the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited [NIGCOMSAT] are, on behalf of the Nigerian government, possibly hacking your phones and listening in to your conversations.
The three state agencies are able to do this with the aid of an over N11 billion sophisticated equipment procured and installed for them by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Knowing what Nigerians are discussing over the telephone was too important a necessity for Mr. Jonathan that he awarded two different contracts for the same purpose in less than two months interval.
On August 31, 2010, less than six months after he became acting president, Mr. Jonathan awarded an approximately N6billion contract to an Israeli-owned but Abuja-based security firm, V & V Nigeria Limited, for the “Procurement of strategic GSM Tracking System for the Nigeria Police Force and expansion/upgrade of the existing system with the DSS”.
The project, awarded to the contractor by the Ministry of Police Affairs, was jointly hosted by the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), under the Nigeria Police Reform Programme.
Less than two months after – October 21, 2010 – another N2.61 billion contract was awarded by the same Ministry of Police Affairs “for the procurement of Strategic GSM Tracking and Interception Systems for the Department of State Services, under the Nigeria Police Reform”.
This other contract, which appears a duplicate of the first, was awarded to a British security firm, Gamma TSE Limited, which, according to the information on its website, “manufactures highly specialized surveillance vehicles and integrated surveillance systems, helping government agencies collect data and communicate it to key decision-makers for timely decisions to be made”.
The two clearly similar projects were however neither budgeted for nor listed among contracts approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2010. They were also not captured in the government’s budget implementation reports for that year.
There is also no indication that the contracts complied with Nigeria’s public procurement law, which requires competitive bidding for government contracts of that magnitude.
Yet there was a separate project in the 2010 budget by the Nigeria Police Force (not the Ministry of Police Affairs) for “the procurement of GSM interception and tracking equipment installed in 10 configured vehicles (security/criminal intelligence)” for which N2.5billion was budgeted.
It is not clear whether this other project was executed at the time, but it was also not captured in the budget implementation report as well as FEC approvals for the year.
Insiders at the State Security Service, the Nigerian Police and the NIGCOMSAT said while Gamma TSE delivered on the contract awarded to it, they were not sure that V & V, linked to a top politician from the South-South, performed satisfactorily.
Gamma TSE could not be reached for comments. Repeated telephone calls to its London office were neither answered nor returned.
V & V also declined to comment when contacted by PREMIUM TIMES. The official, who answered the call made to the company’s Abuja office, directed all enquiries on the project to the Ministry of Police Affairs.
But the spokesperson for the Ministry of Police Affairs, James Odaudu, also declined comments, just like his counterpart at NIGCOMSAT, Sonny Aragba-Akpore. Both officials said they should not be expected to divulge details about security-related installations.
Details about these new surveillance contracts emerged about 22 months after PREMIUM TIMES exposed a similar $40 million surveillance contract the administration secretly, also in open violation of lawful contracting procedures, awarded to an Israeli firm, Elbit Systems, with headquarters in Haifa.
At the time, Nigerian rights activists considered the project one of the most far-reaching policies ever designed in the country’s history to invade the privacy of citizens.
The clandestine programme allows the government spy on citizens’ computers and Internet communications and emails under the guise of intelligence gathering and national security.
Embarrassed by the widespread national outrage that arose after this newspaper exclusively exposed the secret contract, the presidency had summoned the management of Elbit Systems for a meeting to explain why the contract should not be revoked after it allegedly breached a confidential clause in the contract.
In May 2013, the House of Representatives asked the federal government to suspend the contract, saying it was awarded in breach of the Fiscal Responsibility Act and that the deployment of such spy equipment would violate citizens’ constitutional rights.
The House then ordered the immediate suspension of the project to allow its Committees on Information and Computer Technology, Human Rights, and National Security, to conduct an inquiry.
The House is however yet to make the outcome of its enquiry public, and the project has since gone ahead. Intelligence sources say the Internet Spy device has since come alive.
The spying on telephone and Internet communications of citizens is continuing despite the country not having any law in place to regulate such undertakings by the nation’s security agencies.
The Cybercrime Bill 2014, which allows a measure of communication interception, is yet to be passed into law by the National Assembly.
Part 3 Section 22 of the Bill, which deals with Interception of electronic communications, says: “Where there are reasonable grounds to suspect that the content of any electronic communication is reasonably required for the purposes of a criminal investigation or proceedings, a Judge may on the basis of information on oath: (a) order a service provider, through the application of technical means to collect, record, permit or assist competent authorities with the collection or recording of content data associated with specified communications transmitted by means of a computer system; or (b) authorize a law enforcement officer to collect or record such data through application or technical means.”
However, the bill, initiated by the presidency, was passed in December by the Senate but it only scaled second reading in the House of Representatives on Tuesday and was referred to the House committees on justice and information for further scrutiny.
When eventually passed by both chambers, it would be harmonised and then sent to the President for assent.

BILL TO INTERCEPT SMS, EMAILS PASSES SECOND READING AT HOUSE.

BILL TO INTERCEPT SMS, EMAILS PASSES SECOND READING AT HOUSE
A bill that seeks to intercept personal communications of Nigerians sponsored by the Federal Government yesterday passed second reading at the House of Representatives.
President Goodluck Jonathan had in January last year forwarded the bill to the lower chamber for consideration, but it came up for debate only yesterday.
The bill essentially empowers security agents to intercept and record electronic communications between individuals and seize usage data from internet service providers and mobile networks as well as ask telecommunication companies to conduct surveillance on individuals and release user data to authorities.
If the Cybercrime Bill is enacted into law, authorities can intercept and record personal emails, text messages, instant messages, voice mails and multimedia messages, in order to facilitate a criminal investigation.
The bill defines “electronic communication” that could be intercepted to include “communication in electronic format, instant messages, short message service (SMS), e-mail, video, voice mails, multimedia message service (MMS), fax and pager.
Based on the bill, “interception” includes “listening to or recording of communication data of a computer or acquiring the substance, meaning or purport of such and any acts capable of blocking or preventing any of these functions.”
Leading debate on the bill, House Leader Mulikat Akande-Adeola said bill seeks to provide an effective, unified and comprehensive legal, regulatory and institutional framework for the prohibition, prevention, detection, prosecution and punishment of cyber crimes in Nigeria.

Also supporting the bill, Rep Nkiruka Onyejeocha (PDP, Abia), implored her colleagues to support the passage bill to sanitise the Nigerian cyber space.
Consequently, the bill was unanimously passed as Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, who presided over yesterday’s sitting, referred it to the committees on justice and information technology.
According to the bill, Section 15 (1) provides for a jail term of not less than one year or a fine of N2 million for “any person who, by means of a public electronic communications network persistently sends a message or other matter that (a) is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character or causes any such message or matter to be so sent; or (b) he knows to be false, the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another or cause.”
Also, the bill prescribes death sentence to a person who commits crime against Critical National Information Infrastructure, which is defined as “certain computer systems, networks and information infrastructure vital to the national security of Nigeria or the economy and social well-being of its citizens.”
However, if the offence does not result in death but leads to “grievous bodily injury,” the offender shall be liable to imprisonment for a minimum term of 15 years.
A life imprisonment also awaits “any person that accesses or causes to be accessed any computer or computer system or network for purposes of terrorism.” The bill says “terrorism” shall have the same meaning under Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011, as amended.

CHADIAN MILITARY KILLED NOT LESS THAN 207 BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS.

Soldiers from Chad killed 207 Boko Haram militants in fighting on Tuesday near a Nigerian town close to the border with Cameroon, Chad's army announced in a statement.

One Chadian soldier was killed and another nine were wounded in the clashes near Garambu, the scene of regular attacks by the Nigerian Islamist group in recent months. There was no immediate independent verification of the Chadian army's announcement.

Chad's military also claimed to have seized large quantities of small arms and ammunition and two pick-up trucks.

Niger, Cameroon and Chad have launched a regional military campaign to help Nigeria defeat the Boko Haram insurgency, which aims to carve an Islamic emirate out of northeastern Nigeria.

Chad deployed troops last month in support of Cameroonian efforts to stop repeated cross-border raids by the Islamists, whose operations increasingly threaten Nigeria's neighbors.

The African Union last month authorized the creation of the regional force, which will also include Benin, and is pushing for a U.N. Security Council mandate for the operation.

DECLARE YOUR CANDIDATE HEALTH STATUS PDP DARES APC.

The Presidential Campaign Organisation, Ogun State notes with dismay the secrecy with which the real health status of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential flag bearer, General Muhammadu Buhari is Shrouded.
It is even more worrisome that in spite of the embarrassment the nation recently suffered with the Yar’Adua saga, the APC that is busy hallucinating about taking over power at the center has not found it expedient to come straight on this germane matter.

First as Nigerians, we feel concerned about the well being of our fellow citizen and more about a man who had served this country in the Army but history as taught us that the Presidential position comes with lots of physical challenge and huge mental demands and as such a proposed occupant of such position must be at least 90% healthy and of a very sound mind.

We wonder why the opposition party is spending so much time and resources to conceal the true state of health of the former dictator. Moreso, we find it rather ridiculous and a grand insult to Nigerians, that the opposition party has continued to play “hide and seek” whenever the issue of General Buhari’s health comes up.

We love General Buhari and we will not stands idle to watch some greedy, self-centered and selfish politicians push such man around all in the process of actualizing their egocentric lust for power. We will not also fold our hands and allow these few take the already progressing country into constitutional crisis and needless doctrine of necessity.

We therefore condemn in strong terms the continuous surreptitious positioning of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on the true state of health of its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.

In light of these and in conformity with section 137 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), we hereby wish to make public of our resolve to challenge the state of mind and physical health of General Buhari in a competent court of law and demand that a thorough medical examination be carried out on him to ascertain if he is capable of holding the highest office in the land in line with the provisions of the constitution.

BOYCOTT ALL NIGERIA ELECTIONS IN BIAFRALAND BZM TASKS BIAFRANS.

Biafra Zionists Federation urge Igbos to boycott election

-- “any harm done to the detained pro-Biafran is a harm done to all Igbos.”

-- “We urge all worthy Igbo sons and daughters not to participate in the forthcoming elections – this is the only honour they should do to these great patriots.”

The Biafra Zionists Federation, a pro-Biafran secession group, on Sunday called on the Igbos to boycott the general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11.

The boycott is proposed as a show of solidarity with 11 members of the BZF, including the leader, Ben Onwuka, who were arrested during an attempt to declare the secession of the Republic of Biafra from the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the studio of the Enugu State Broadcasting Service on June 5, 2014.

Onwuka and the 10 members of the BZF are currently remanded in prison following treason charges filed against them by the Federal Government.

Urging Igbos to boycott the general elections, the pro-Biafra movement expressed anger that a Federal High Court, sitting in Enugu, had on February 19 refused to grant bail to Onwuka and the others.

National Chairman of BZF, Comrade Cyril Onyia, at a news conference in Enugu, called on the entire people of the South-East to boycott the election as a show of solidarity with the detained activists, who he said were in custody because they were fighting for the liberation of all Igbos.

Onyia argued that “any harm done to the detained pro-Biafra secessionists is a harm done to all Igbos.”

He said, “They (arrested BZF members) have been in prison custody not because they are pursuing a selfish cause but for the singular reason that they are demanding the liberation of Ndigbo.

“To this end, we urge all worthy Igbo sons and daughters not to participate in the forthcoming elections – this is the only honour they should do to these great patriots.”

Faulting the court’s refusal to grant bail to the 11 BZF members, Onyia said, “It is indeed very surprising that the court refused them bail on the grounds that they may cause security breach within this period.
“It is surprising because the BZF does not believe in violence, neither does it associate with any violent group. We can never disrupt any election, even though we shall abstain from voting.

NIGERIAN TROOPS RECOVER ARMS FROM FLEEING BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS.

Nigerian troops engaged in cordon and search in Baga continue to discover more arms of various background and shapes abandoned in some houses and surrounding communities by fleeing terrorists, the Nigerian defence headquarters has said.
The spokesperson for the Defence Headquarters, Chris Olukolade, a Major General, said heaps of weapons, most of which were strange looking or destroyed, were still being gathered.
Many abandoned or destroyed motorcycles have also been discovered, Mr. Olukolade said.
He said a soldier was stabbed while another was shot during a close quarter battle which ensued as troops involved in cordon and search caught up with some of the fleeing terrorists Saturday evening.
Mr. Olukolade added, “A number of individuals who claimed to be residents are also being interrogated in order to ascertain their identity and motive. The group consisting mostly women continued to hail and cheer the troops as they conduct thorough search in the area.
“Wanting to be sure the group was not working for the terrorists despite the excitement, they had to be placed under watch.
“The cordon and search as well as patrol of the localities continue while the offensive on terrorists is progressing in other areas of the theatre of the counter terrorist campaign.”
Nigerian troops had on Saturday reclaimed Baga and other surrounding communities after days of fierce fighting.

NIGERIA POLYTECHNICS TO EMBARK ON ANOTHER ROUND OF STRIKE ON WEDNESDAY.

BARRING any last minutes intervention by the federal government, lecturers in the polytechnics across the country will commence another round of strike from Wednesday this week.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, the lecturers, under the auspices of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) emphasised that, if the federal government failed to properly address their demands after the end of its two weeks ultimatum, which ends on Tuesday, its members nationwide would start an indefinite strike from Wednesday, 25th February.

The President of ASUP, Comrade Chibuzor Asomugha, told journalists after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC)  of the union that none of the items on their list of demands had been attended to, after they suspended their months old strike last year when the new Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, was appointed.

Giving their resolution, he said: “In view of these developments and also in view of the failure of government to honour agreement with our union, we hereby resolved that at the expiration of the two weeks ultimatum our Union issued to government beginning from 11th February, 2015 on the pending issues, ASUP shall embark on an indefinite strike action until all the ongoing anomalies in our Polytechnics are addressed and the 13-point demand pending before government was implemented.”

The lecturers suspended the strike on promises by the then newly appointed education minister, and took the action to honour him.

But ASUP said the federal government had failed to implement an agreement it entered with them over four years ago.

The union also said the Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State and that of Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State should be dissolved for creating avoidable problems in their institutions.

Some of their demands included the need to address what they termed the “continued discrimination” against polytechnic graduates both in the public service and the labour market in Nigeria; non-release of white paper on visitation to federal polytechnics.

NATIONAL DISASTER IS ABOUT TO BEFALL NIGERIA ANY MOMENT FROM NOW.

As Nigerians hope for a reversal in the falling oil price, they may have to wait a little longer for the good news as new forecast suggest tougher economic times.

This is as Bloomberg’s Gary Shilling has painted a gloomy picture for the global price of oil soon.

According to him, “the price could slope to just between $10 and $20 per barrel. So how prepared are countries whose major incomes are derived from oil to meet this challenge should it happen?
In June 2014 the price of oil scaled up to $107. Months later it fell to as low as $50 per barrel and further fell below that price”.

Part of his analysis to arrive at this fearful position is that the U.S. economic growth has averaged 2.3 percent a year since the recovery started in mid-2009.

“That’s about half the rate you might expect in a rebound from the deepest recession since the 1930s. Meanwhile, growth in China is slowing, is minimal in the euro zone and is negative in Japan. Throw in the large increase in U.S. vehicle gas mileage and other conservation measures and it’s clear why global oil demand is weak and might even decline,” the analysis stated.

The analysis reads further:

“At the same time, output is climbing, thanks in large part to increased U.S. production from hydraulic fracking and horizontal drilling. U.S. output rose by 15 percent in the 12 months through November from a year earlier, based on the latest data, while imports declined 4 percent.

“Something else figures in the mix: The eroding power of the OPEC cartel. Like all cartels, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries is designed to ensure stable and above-market crude prices. But those high prices encourage cheating, as cartel members exceed their quotas. For the cartel to function, its leader — in this case, Saudi Arabia — must accommodate the cheaters by cutting its own output to keep prices from falling. But the Saudis have seen their past cutbacks result in market-share losses.

“So, the Saudis, backed by other Persian Gulf oil producers with sizable financial resources — Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates — embarked on a game of chicken with the cheaters. On Nov. 27, OPEC said that it wouldn’t cut output, sending oil prices off a cliff. The Saudis figure they can withstand low prices for longer than their financially weaker competitors, who will have to cut production first as pumping becomes uneconomical.

“What is the price at which major producers chicken out and slash output? Whatever that price is, it is much lower than the $125 a barrel Venezuela needs to support its mismanaged economy. The same goes for Ecuador, Algeria, Nigeria, Iraq, Iran and Angola.

“Saudi Arabia requires a price of more than $90 to fund its budget. But it has $726 billion in foreign currency reserves and is betting it can survive for two years with prices of less than $40 a barrel.

“Furthermore, the price when producers chicken out isn’t necessarily the average cost of production, which for 80 percent of new U.S. shale oil production this year will be $50 to $69 a barrel, according to Daniel Yergin of energy consultant IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates. Instead, the chicken-out point is the marginal cost of production, or the additional costs after the wells are drilled and the pipes are laid. Another way to think of it: It’s the price at which cash flow for an additional barrel falls to zero.

“Last month, Wood Mackenzie, an energy research organization, found that of 2,222 oil fields surveyed worldwide, only 1.6 percent would have negative cash flow at $40 a barrel. That suggests there won’t be a lot of chickening out at $40. Keep in mind that the marginal cost for efficient U.S. shale-oil producers is about $10 to $20 a barrel in the Permian Basin in Texas and about the same for oil produced in the Persian Gulf.

“Also, consider the conundrum financially troubled countries such as Russia and Venezuela find themselves in: They desperately need the revenue from oil exports to service.

PLEASE DON'T LEAVE BEFORE ELECTION SPECIAL ADVISER TO GOV NASARAWA BEGS NDIGBO.

The Special Adviser to Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on National Integration, Chief Ezedinma Chukwunonso, has appealed to Igbos not to leave the state before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.

Chukwunonso gave the advice when members of the Igbo Community Association (ICA) paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Lafia on Friday.

He said adequate security had been provided to ensure their safety, hence the need for them to remain in the state.

The special adviser also urged them to live peacefully with their host community as well as ensure tolerance and understanding for the development of the state.

Chukwunonso called on them to ensure that they collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them vote for candidates of their choice.

Mr Uche Nwosu, a member of the group, said they were in the special adviser’s office to rejoice with him over his leadership style and cooperation.
Nwosu then assured the governor’s aide of the continuous support of Igbo people in the state for the state government policies and programmes.

BOKO HARAM IS FACING THE MOST DIFFICULT TIME AS LARGE NUMBER DROWNED TODAY IN LAKE CHAD.

A large number of terrorists have drowned in the Lake Chad as they fled the heavy bombardment by Nigerian Air force heralding the advance of Nigerian troops on mission to flush them out of Baga, the Nigerian defence headquarters has said.
“Not even the strategy of mining over 1500 spots with land mines on the routes leading to the town could save the terrorists from the aggressive move of advancing troops,” the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, a Major General, said in a statement.
He added, “All the land mines were skillfully cleared one after the other. Eventually, the resistance of the terrorists collapsed and the land forces finally stormed the town in the early hours of Friday.
“Many of the terrorists died while an unknown but substantial number of them fled with various degrees of injury, in the series of encounter along the routes of advance as troops headed for Baga.
“Apart from the 5 anti air craft guns and the rifles captured from the terrorists, over 34 motorcycles and 5 vehicles including trucks being used for operations by the terrorists were destroyed in the course of the fighting as troops headed for Baga. The troops finally began clearing the terrorists from Baga on arrival in the town early Saturday morning.
“A comprehensive cordon and search phase of military operation has now commenced to enable troops mop up arms and ammunition and also apprehend any terrorist who might be hiding in the vicinity. The exercise will also determine details of the casualties inflicted or incurred in the course of the operations to clear Baga and environ of terrorists.
“Similar exercise is being carried out in over 12 locations namely Gajigana, Ngaze, Ngenzai, Marte Junction, Mile 90, Yoyo, Kekeno, Kukawa, Cross Kauwa, Kangarwa, Amirari and other localities where troops have flushed out the terrorists in the operations preceding the entry to Baga. The troops are now dominating and conducting aggressive patrols in the locations. The morale of troops remain high.”

TOP REASONS COUPLES FALL OUT OF LOVE AND SOLUTIONS TO IT.

Top Reasons Couples Fall Out of Love

You’ll hear many people say “we just aren’t ‘in love’ with each other anymore.” But relationships don’t naturally fall apart, according to Susan Orenstein, a licensed psychologist and relationship expert in Cary, N.C.

Other reasons often underlie a relationship’s breakdown. Below, you’ll find these common reasons along with several helpful suggestions if one hits close to home.

They don’t meet each other’s needs.

At the beginning of a relationship, people are attracted to each other’s traits, said Mudita Rastogi, Ph.D, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Arlington Heights, Ill. But over time their needs go unmet. For instance, a husband may no longer feel wanted by his wife. A wife may fear her husband isn’t going to support her.

Or the very traits they were attracted to have now become intolerable, she said. For instance, one partner loves that the other is sociable and has a similar sense of humor. However, over time, they think their partner is too loud and flirtatious with friends, which leads to jealousy and resentment, she said.

Suggestion: Because partners aren’t mind readers, it’s important to discuss your needs. Ask “each other what makes [you] feel loved and wanted,” Rastogi said. One partner might need a hug right after work. Another might need a date night. Someone else might need a text when their partner is running late. Still someone else might need to hear the words “I love you” more often.

The honeymoon is over.

Over time, the lust, excitement and pride in your partner — the “honeymoon period” — also fades, said Orenstein. It’s normal for the highs of the relationship to level out.

In fact, this is how we’re wired, she said. She cited the work of anthropologist Helen Fisher, who notes that all cultures have a kind of honeymoon period so that bonding and mating can occur.

But because this early phase inevitably fades, couples think they’re not “in love” anymore, and, as bills and dishes pile up, they may start taking each other for granted, Orenstein said. We may “gloss over the positives that our mates do for us, and instead tend to focus on the negatives.”

Suggestion: We are wired for negativity. It’s human nature, Orenstein said, to focus on what’s missing and what others have that we don’t. That’s why it’s important to refocus ourselves on gratitude. If we regularly notice and acknowledge the positive things our partners do to make our lives comfortable and meaningful, we actually rewire “our brain to be in a more positive state of appreciation and gratitude.”

Orenstein suggested creating a list of all the considerate things your partner has done in the past 24 hours. For instance, maybe they quietly got ready for work so you could sleep in. Maybe they washed the dishes or texted you during the day to see how you were doing. Maybe they’re working hard for your family or made dinner that night.

The next day when they do something kind, express your gratitude. “These micro moments are the building blocks for creating a home life replete with affection and appreciation.”

They avoid conflict.

Some couples swallow their feelings because they’re afraid of conflict, said Orenstein. This means that over time, frustration, hurt and resentment build up, which “crowd[s] out the love and joy that they used to feel.”

Suggestion: Orenstein suggested couples find ways they can share feedback. For instance, instead of getting defensive, thank your partner for his or her feedback and consider what you can learn about their needs, she said.

Try to think of your partner’s feedback as an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of him or her. Also, “make sure you’re sharing who you are and what you need.” When you’re honest and open, you not only understand each other better, but you also build respect and find creative solutions to meet each other’s needs, she said.

And if you’re having a difficult time with this, seeing a therapist can help. “An experienced couples therapist can teach you tools for speaking and listening and facilitate these loving conversations,” Orenstein said.

They fight frequently and dirty.

Some couples don’t know how to work together and instead struggle for control, Orenstein said. “These couples are in high-conflict relationships, often finding themselves yelling, saying hurtful comments to and about their spouse, and even becoming physically aggressive.”

They also begin to view each other as the enemy, and feel insecure and unsafe, she said. “Any feelings of warmth and affection are taken over by feelings of fear, anger and shame.”

Suggestion: “Go see a trained couples therapist who can help you and your partner establish ‘rules of engagement’ to stop the dirty fighting and instead share your frustrations in a constructive manner,” Orenstein said. You’ll learn to recognize the signs that you’re losing control, use tools to calm down, cope with conflict effectively and get closer, she said.

If you have fallen out of love with your partner, remember that the relationship isn’t doomed to a downward spiral or breakup. It’s a myth, Orenstein said, that “partners have no control over turning it around.” If you’d like to improve your relationship, try the above techniques that are applicable, or find a therapist who specializes in working with couples.

“Couples really owe it to themselves and each other to ascertain what went wrong so they can address it to improve the relationship or to at least recognize their contribution to the problem so they can create a better relationship in their future,” Orenstein said.

In his book The Art of Loving, Erich Fromm described love as a process and a journey, Rastogi said. “It is a series of actions rather than a fleeting feeling. Thus, love is something you create, and not simply feel.”

The women who thronged the NDA Junction in the state capital to press home their point, heaped the blame for their husband's erectile dysfunction on the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), alleged that the chemical waste and fumes from the company into their environemnt, has, contributed to their husband's loss of sexual potency, making them unable to satisfy their women on bed.

Speaking to journalists during the protest, some married women said most men in the Mararaba Rido community suffered one form of reproductive health problem or the other due to the toxic waste from the KRPC.

They reported that their men suffer weak erection and infertility, while the women often miscarry their babies or their ovaries are affected.

A community leader, Mohammed Bashar, also pointed out:

"Most of the complaints could be associated with secondary infertility, because victims have, in the past, given birth to children before they suddenly stopped.

There was widespread belief that smoke and poisonous gases emitted from the refinery have reproductive health effect on people living in the area, but no medical report has confirmed the allegation due to inability of villagers to seek comprehensive medical tests, perhaps owing to lack of awareness and poverty."

A married woman, Jummai Isaac, 27, said she has not been able to conceive since she got married in the year 2000.

"I haven’t conceived since I got married in the last fourteen years, and doctors have, on several occasions, confirmed to me absence of any known cause of inability to get pregnant.

Initially, doctors thought I had fibroid in my womb, but after several scans and some medical tests, they dispelled that notion."

INJUSTICE WILL MAKE NIGERIA TO KNOW NO PEACE UNTIL ITS DISENFRANCHISED.

The Federal High Court sitting in Enugu on Thursday refused bail to 11 members of Biafra Zionist Movement who allegedly attempted a secession.

The accused persons, who are facing a four-count charge, had pleaded not guilty to the charges on their first appearance in court.

In her ruling, Justice D.V. Agishi said that the court could use its discretion in deciding whether or not to grant the bail but that the degree of their offenses was grave.

Agishi also said that the fragile political situation in the country made it imperative for the court not grant them bail.

“Having gone through the applications of both parties, it is the responsibility of this court to avoid violence in this nation though the court still presumes the accused persons innocent.

Because this group’s activities involved violence and due to the very fragile situation in the country, the court will not grant them bail.

The Biafra Zionists is a violent movement with the intention to make a live broadcast on the alleged secession of Biafra,’’ she said.

Agishi said that in the course of their protest, lives had been lost which included a policeman and one of the members of the movement.

The judge added that the group’s plan was to jeopardise the corporate existence of the Nigerian nation by raising Biafran flag at the Enugu Government House and posting write ups in the internet.

She said that because the country was in a very fragile political period, the court would not allow the activities of the group to continue.

The judge adjourned the matter to March 19 for commencement of their trial.

Those facing the trial include Benjamin Onwuka and Ndubisi Nnamchi, both of Enugu North Local Government Area and Kelvin Ekeh of Enugu East.

Others are Japhet Nwodo, Fidelis Nwosu, Paulinus Uzoegbu, Sunday Chukwuma, Uduma Uduma, Betrand Obiekwe, Abraham Ugwu and Samson Ijaga, residents of Anambra.

The attack came shortly after the military recaptured 11 communities from the insurgents.

He stated this on Friday while inaugurating the 750 MW Olorunsogo II Power Station in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
“I am happy that I have consistently delivered on my campaign promises to transform Nigeria and my administration would leave no stone unturned to achieve its goals,” he said.
“I have lived up to my campaign pledge to make the power sector a priority.”

He further explained that out of that amount, a total of $650 million dollars‎ was committed to the Olorunsogo power plant and that there were 10 of such power projects ongoing across the nation.
He said that he inaugurated two of them in Kogi and Ondo States in 2014 and that they had been privatised while that of Olorunsogo was in the process of being privatised.
Mr. Jonathan however, assured that he would equally inaugurate the Egbin power station on Saturday.
He pledged that the interface between the government and the private sector on the privatisation of the power sector would be completely sealed by 2017, if elected again.
The president also appealed to Nigerians to support his administration in its desire to improve electricity supply.

NAIRA HITS WORST RECORD AS IT DEPRECATED TO LOWEST LEVEL.

Lagos – The Naira on Friday depreciated by N5 to the dollar as it traded N215 at the Bureau De Change (BDCs) segment of the official market.
It also depreciated by N7 at the black market, selling at N217 to the dollar.
A dealer, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the depreciation might be due to the closure of the Retail Dutch Auction System (RDAS) by the CBN.
It was closed by CBN on Feb. 18.
RDAS is a foreign exchange window at CBN where the Bureau de Change and commercial banks buy forex.
The dealer said that the CBN’s decision, which was meant to control speculations, had made other currencies to be scarce.
He also said that dealers were left to source for forex only at the interbank market unlike in the past when they had three to four segments to buy.
Besides, the Naira against the pound at the BDCs exchanged for N332 from the N307 it sold on Monday.
It went for N335 at the black market from the N314 it sold four days ago.
The Naira lost N5 to the Euro to sell at N240, when compared with the N235 it sold on Monday Feb.16 at the BDCs.
The currency, at the black market, traded for N244 as against the N237 it traded on Monday. (NAN).

LIVERPOOL CAPTAIN STEVEN GERRARD AND MARIO BALOTELLI AT LOGGER HEAD OVER DISRESPECTFUL.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard accused Mario Balotelli of being disrespectful after the controversial Italian striker snatched penalty-taking duties away from Jordan Henderson during Thursday's 1-0 Europa League win over Besiktas.

Gerrard was angry that Balotelli overruled Henderson when the stand-in Reds skipper tried to take an 85th-minute penalty in the last 32, first leg at Anfield.

With the game goalless, Jordon Ibe won the spot-kick and England international Henderson appeared set to fulfil his role as the assigned penalty taker in the absence of the injured Gerrard.

But Balotelli took the ball out of Henderson's hands, prompting an exchange of words with the Liverpool midfielder before a visibly irritated Reds striker, Daniel Sturridge, arrived on the scene to protest on Henderson's behalf.

Ignoring their complaints, Balotelli, who has endured a difficult time at Liverpool since his move from AC Milan last year, didn't seem bothered by the fuss as he deliberately stutter-stepped in his run-up before coolly stroking home the spot-kick.

Balotelli has scored 27 of his 29 penalties for club and country throughout his career.

However, Gerrard, watching from the ITV studio at Anfield in his role as a pundit, was unimpressed by Balotelli's behaviour.

"Jordan should have taken the penalty. Rules are rules. It should have been Henderson. Mario has been a bit mischievous," Gerrard said on ITV.

"Credit to Mario, he's scored, but it's not nice to see when footballers are arguing.

"Jordan is the captain and Mario showed Jordan a bit of disrespect there, but he's scored a very important goal.

"I think six or seven players would have wanted to take that penalty so if they all say they are taking it, what happens then? Rules are in place for a reason."

Henderson admitted that he wanted to take the penalty, but he diplomatically tried to draw a line under the incident.

"I wanted the penalty, Mario felt confident and he has taken big penalties before. Everyone wants to take them. I felt confident in Mario, he has taken big penalties before and he got the nod," Henderson told ITV.

NO FEWER THAN 650 BOKO HARAM MILITANTS KILLED AS AIR FORCE BOMB SAMBISA FOREST.

Nigeria’s air force on Thursday bombed Boko Haram strongholds in northeast Borno state, killing “a large number of terrorists”, as a four-nation offensive against the insurgents presses on, a military statement said.

The targets of the bombardment included the town of Gwoza, where Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau first proclaimed the existence of a caliphate inside in Nigeria in August, and the notorious Sambisa Forest area, where the rebels have had camps for years.
“The air strikes which today targeted… Sambisa forests and parts of Gwoza have been highly successful,” defence spokesman Chris Olukolade said in a statement.
“The death of a large number of terrorists has been recorded.”
Nigerian military claims of successes against Boko Haram have in the past not been consistent with witness accounts and it was not immediately possible to verify the details of the latest operation.
The Sambisa Forest is believed to be the area where more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in April were taken before being divided into groups and moved.
The Islamist militants took over Gwoza in July and tried to encourage people to stay and live under the group’s so-called caliphate.
The current population of the town is not known and it was not clear if any civilians were killed in the air force bombardment.
Nigeria and its neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger this month launched an unprecedented joint campaign to crush the uprising, claiming major successes.
But the regional militaries have offered different accounts of operations so far.
Chad this week said its fighters were advancing towards Sambisa Forest after crossing the border and overpowering the Islamists in the Borno town of Dikwa, 50 kilometres (about 30 miles) from their base on the Cameroon border.
Nigeria has insisted its military is leading the operation, which aimed at containing the insurgency which has killed 13,000 people since 2009.

DR GOODLUCK JONATHAN COMMISSION FOUR NEW NAVAL SHIPS IN LAGOS TODAY.

Nigerian leader, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has said that premium had been placed on improved national security in line with his administration’s Transformation Agenda and "our vision of becoming one of the leading economies in the world"

He gave this indication here Thursday while commissioning four new ships that were recently added to the Nigerian Navy Fleet.

The ships are the Nigerian Navy Ship OKPABANA, a High Endurance Cutter acquired from the US; Nigerian Navy Ship PROSPERITY, a former Irish Navy fishery patrol boat, acquired purposely for use as a training ship; Nigerian Navy Ship CENTENARY, one of the two offshore patrol vessels procured from China and Nigerian Navy Ship SAGBAMA, which was donated by China.

According to President Jonathan, "The high dependence of the nation’s economy on offshore resources, as well as the enormous potentials of the maritime sector to contribute to our food security and employment generation, makes provision of effective maritime security very imperative. Therefore, the Nigerian Navy, as the lead maritime security agency, deserves all the support it needs, to effectively carry out its statutory roles.

"In this regard, and in spite of other pressing demands, my administration has continued to support the fleet recapitalization objective of the Nigerian Navy Transformation Plan 2010 – 2020, which was formulated to support the realization of the goals of the Federal Government’s Transformation Agenda."

"The four ships being commissioned are part of a total of six ships expected to be commissioned into the Nigerian Navy Fleet in 2015," he said, adding "I am confident that this event represents a furtherance of continued cooperation between Nigeria, the United States of America and China in the area of maritime security.

"It is remarkable to note that the Nigerian Navy Ship OKPABANA is the sixth ship the Nigerian Navy has acquired from the United States of America since 2002. On the other hand, Nigerian Navy Ship CENTENARY is the first of the two initial acquisitions from China. I am aware that the second vessel is still under construction in China and will be delivered before the end of the year."

The president expressed the desire of this administration to "see more progress in our cooperation, to the mutual benefit of our respective countries".

He said the commissioning ceremony had given him the opportunity to "once again reaffirm my confidence in the competence and commitment of the officers, ratings and civilian staff of the Nigerian Navy."

On the spate of oil thefts, President Jonathan said he had particularly noted the achievements of the Navy in the fight against oil theft and other maritime crimes.

He reassured the Navy that his administration would not waiver in its support to the on-going capacity building effort, saying, however, "On your part, the government and people of Nigeria will expect judicious and productive use of these assets, to deliver the much desired maritime security."

THE NIGERIAN MILITARY IS WINNING THE WAR AGAINST TERRORISM AS THEY BEGIN AIRSTRIKES ON SAMBISA FOREST.
